OAKLAND – Host, Sarah Rutan: If you’re planning to hire a contractor, you’ll first want to do your homework. Today we’re in Oakland with Diamond Certified Expert Contributor, Diana Connolly of Montclair Construction & Structural, Inc. to learn more.

Diamond Certified Expert Contributor, Diana Connolly: Before anybody ever hires a contractor, the first thing they need to do is make sure they have a valid license. This license is very important because is something should happen to your job, something the contractor does and it doesn’t turn out right, you’ll have the Contractor’s State License Board to help you get it resolved with the contractor.

The best way to see if the contractor has a license is, it should be on all their documentation, it should be on their business cards, it should be on their contracts, it should be on anything that they give you. Once you get this license number, the best way to check it is to go to the clsb.ca.gov website and in one second it will tell you if it is a valid license or not.
