SUNNYVALE – Host, Sarah Rutan: If you drive a partial zero emissions vehicle, make sure you’re aware of its unique warranty conditions. Today we’re in Sunnyvale with Diamond Certified Expert Contributor Ralph Foglein of European Auto Works to learn more.

Diamond Certified Expert Contributor, Ralph Foglein: A lot of cars today are manufactured with a rating called “PZEV.” PZEV gives your vehicle a 15-year, 150,000-mile warrantee. Now, the details are in your owner’s manual to know for sure if your car is PZEV-rated. There’s a sticker called an “emissions sticker” under the hood that will give you that information.

And the important detail is that with this 15-year, 150,000-mile warranty, you need to be aware of that. Because you might be paying for repairs that would essentially be free. Most shops are not aware of this feature. A lot of dealers are not aware of the feature and will charge for these repairs unless you push the point that your car is PZEV and it should be free. Then they will, obviously, go the extra length and make the repairs for free. Not all things are covered. Not all failures are covered. But if you have that rating, you do have a 15-year, 150,000-mile warrantee, which is pretty spectacular.
