Ryan Ackman: Green Ambition
"By thinking creatively and taking a more ecologically-sensitive approach, we’re able to get the same or even better results than those of conventional methods."

COTATI − For Ryan Ackman, the decision to found an independent pest control company was chiefly motivated by a passion for environmental stewardship. “Within a few years of working for a locally-owned pest control business, I started gaining an interest in new industry developments, particularly in regard to environmentally-friendly products and practices,” he recounts. “Unfortunately, the company I worked for wasn’t interested in adapting with the times; rather, they were satisfied with continuing to use conventional methods. Eventually, I decided to start my own business, which allowed me to focus on providing innovative, environmentally-conscious solutions.”

Today, as owner of Greenbelt Pest Control, Inc., Ryan continues to operate on the cutting edge of industry methods and technology. “By thinking creatively and taking a more ecologically-sensitive approach, we’re able to get the same or even better results than those of conventional methods, all while reducing our environmental impact.”

A lifelong resident of Sonoma County (where he lives with his wife, Jenna, and their three daughters), Ryan enjoys taking advantage of all that the local setting has to offer, from skiing at Tahoe to soaking in the sun at a nearby beach. “We’re very blessed to live in such close proximity to the ocean, the mountains and the city—it’s really an ideal location.” Ryan also likes volunteering his time to coach youth sports, including his daughters’ teams. At home, he enjoys activities like working on gardening and landscaping projects, as well as playing musical instruments such as the guitar and the drums. “We have a few instruments in our home, and I encourage our kids to play them.”

When asked about a personal philosophy, Ryan offers his own take on the age-old golden rule. “People always say you should treat others the way you’d expect to be treated, but as a business owner, I strive to treat others better than how I’d expect to be treated,” he explains. “That’s why I’m very proactive about following up with our customers and making sure they’re pleased with the quality of our work.”

When asked the first thing he’d do if he could retire tomorrow, Ryan says he’d take a long road trip. “I would probably buy an RV and travel as much as possible. I think my first trip would be to take my girls to see the Grand Canyon.”
