  • Patricia Scott Winslow is a Real Estate Agent with Decker Bullock Sotheby’s International.

“I believe you get out of life what you’re willing to put in."

GREENBRAE – When asked how she got involved in the real estate industry, Patricia Scott Winslow says it all started with her father. “My father bought and sold real estate as an investor. Growing up, I would often hear him on the phone negotiating with sellers, and he sometimes enlisted me and my siblings to help with fixing up houses. As a result, I became very comfortable around residential real estate—as well as a pretty good negotiator.”

In college, Patricia majored in fine arts and humanities, but as she thought more practically about her future, her focus began to shift. “As I considered what I was going to do after college, I realized I wanted to go into the real estate industry, so I switched my major to real estate and architecture,” she explains. “After graduating, I got my real estate license and have been doing it ever since.”

Today, as a realtor with Decker Bullock Sotheby’s International, Patricia says one of her favorite parts of her job is getting properties ready for market. “Often, I’ll personally handle staging and even renovations for my listings. With my background in architecture and design, I’ve been able to virtually transform properties so they sell for more than they would have otherwise.” Still, Patricia says she gets the most fulfillment from making her clients’ dreams come true. “I enjoy the satisfaction of helping a client find their dream home and making sure it’s a good long-term investment for them.”

As a resident of Marin County (where she lives with her husband, Ben, who works as an attorney in San Francisco), Patricia expresses her appreciation for the dynamic character of Bay Area life. “Being in Marin, we’re very close to San Francisco, yet it doesn’t feel like an urban area. We have all the cultural amenities and the cosmopolitan lifestyle, but we can also walk outside and be surrounded by redwood trees. Basically, it’s the best of both worlds.”

Outside of work, Patricia spends the bulk of her free time nurturing her creative side. “I’m a pretty creative person at heart, and I enjoy hobbies like photography,” she says. “I also love to cook, work in my garden, and hang out with Ben and our two Labrador retrievers, Ames and Elke.”

In her life and career, Patricia espouses the virtue of working hard to achieve your goals. “I believe you get out of life what you’re willing to put in, which is why I’m not afraid to work hard,” she says. “In everything I do, whether personally or professionally, I give it 100 percent of my focus and effort. In my work, that often pays off double—not only do I get a sense of satisfaction from doing a good job, but if the client is happy, they’ll refer me to their friends and family, so it’s a real win-win situation.”

When asked the first thing she’d do if she were to retire tomorrow, Patricia says she’d invest more time toward the activities she currently enjoys. “If I retired tomorrow, I’d be out gardening, taking photographs and creating things. I’m not the kind of person who would sit around and wonder what to do with all that extra time—I’d be busy!”
