Justin Eaglin: Continuing Education
“As a professional in the security industry, you basically become a student for life.”

HAYWARD − Like many industries in which technological advancements rapidly replace outdated methods and products, the locksmith trade requires due diligence on the part of professionals who wish to stay current with the ongoing progress of the field. One would be hard-pressed to find a better example of this than Justin Eaglin, who, as lead security specialist at Foothill Locksmiths, Inc., has made continuing education a staple of his career. “As a professional in the security industry, you basically become a student for life,” he says. “Ever since I started at Foothill Locksmiths, I’ve constantly sought to expand my knowledge in order to stay at the forefront of our rapidly changing industry. I think this dedication on the part of myself and other members of our company really sets us apart in terms of meeting our customers’ security needs.”

While he’s since established himself as a mainstay of the company’s operations, Justin’s involvement with Foothill Locksmiths started from an incidental interaction. “I met Katelyn Lucas while we were both attending Cal State East Bay,” he recounts. “After learning about her family’s business and the services it provided, I was immediately interested. Not long after, I took an entry level position as an apprentice. Since then, I’ve worked my way up to become a leader within the company.”

A lifetime resident of the East Bay, Justin says he appreciates several attributes of his native locale. “Besides the weather, I love how diverse the Bay Area is. In my opinion, there’s no place in the world like it as far as cultural integration. I also think we have a great commercial landscape here, with lots of opportunities for small businesses and entrepreneurs.”

Outside of work, Justin enjoys engaging in personal hobbies like working out, cooking and playing guitar. He’s also passionate about making a difference in his community. “Katelyn and I teamed up to found Voice of a Generation, which focuses on encouraging youth in the community through educational art forms,” he explains. “By working together with local nonprofits like Digital Storytellers to host events and workshops at local schools, we’re able to introduce young people to new mediums and outlets through which to express themselves.”

In his life and career, Justin attributes much of his success to his upbringing, as well as the ongoing support of his family. “My family takes a lot of pride in being honest, hardworking members of society, and I think that’s something that flows through me and all six of my siblings,” he affirms. “They’ve been 100 percent behind me as I’ve pursued my goals, and I don’t think I’d be where I am today without their support and encouragement.”

When asked the first thing he’d do if he could retire tomorrow, Justin says he’d make some wise investments before heading off for some extensive travel. “I would invest some money in a company or product that I believed in with the hope that my investment would grow and become a substantial source of residual income. Then I’d do what most people hope to do in retirement: travel the world!”
