Dave Kusa: Putting it All Together
“I really enjoy talking to and forming relationships with my customers, in addition to getting them back on the road in safe, reliable cars.”

CAMPBELL – While Dave Kusa’s mechanical skills became apparent at a young age, it wasn’t until later that they’d find their application in the professional realm. “When I was a kid, my mom told me I should find a job where I could take things apart and put them back together, because I was pretty good at that,” he remembers. “I’ve always liked cars, so after high school it just made sense for me to get into automotive repair.”

After graduating from De Anza College in Cupertino with a degree in automotive technology, Dave worked as a technician at shops in Santa Clara and Sunnyvale before being hired at Autotrend Diagnostics, where within a few short years he assumed ownership. Today, Dave says his favorite part of his job is interacting with customers. “I really enjoy talking to and forming relationships with my customers, in addition to getting them back on the road in safe, reliable cars.”

A lifetime resident of the Bay Area, Dave says the characteristic attributes of the local setting are ideal for someone with his active interests. “The climate here is fantastic and allows me to pursue outdoor activities like cycling all year round.” Dave also enjoys going on camping trips with his wife, Judy, and their two daughters, Katie and Kristi. “We love the outdoors. We have a travel trailer that we hook up a few times a year and take out to the coast or up into the Santa Cruz mountains.”

In his professional career, Dave adheres to the maxim “adapt or become obsolete” while simultaneously embracing the age-old tenets of customer service. “Technology changes very rapidly in this industry, so it’s vital for a quality auto shop to stay ahead of the curve,” he says. “However, while we make it a point to keep up-to-date with technology, we’re equally focused on maintaining relationships with our customers and making sure they feel well taken care of.”

When asked the first thing he’d do if he could retire tomorrow, Dave says he’d hitch up his trailer and embark on an extended road trip. “I would probably do more traveling on a national scale. There are a lot of great places in America that I would love to take the time to visit.”
