SANTA ROSA – Cathy Olsen got involved in the home care field through the most personal way possible: caring for her own parents. “I used to be in real estate, but when my parents began having health problems, I became their caregiver,” she remembers. “To provide them with the best possible care, I decided to get involved in the industry professionally and started working at an Interim HealthCare office in Chico. Eight years later, after both of my parents had passed away, I decided to start my own franchise.”
Today, as owner of Interim HealthCare of Santa Rosa, Cathy says her favorite part of her job is caring for clients. “Caring for my parents was certainly challenging, but because of that experience, I’m now able to help others who are in similar situations. I enjoy working with our clients and their families, getting to know their stories, and providing them with the best possible care.”
Originally from Minnesota, Cathy resides today in Santa Rosa. Outside of work, she engages in a variety of active pastimes, typically in the company of her husband, John. “John and I are both avid scuba divers,” she says. “We do some diving off the California coast, but we also like to travel and go diving at tropical locations.” The couple also enjoys riding motorcycles and playing golf together.
In her life and career, Cathy espouses the importance of honoring others. “That’s something I feel like we’re lacking in our culture, especially when it comes to seniors,” she affirms. “That’s why I make sure each of our clients is treated with the utmost dignity and respect.”
When asked the first thing she’d do if she were to retire tomorrow, Cathy says she’d embark on an underwater exploration. “I’d probably go diving somewhere I’ve never been. I’ve always wanted to see the Galapagos Islands, so maybe I’d go there.”
