SAN BRUNO − Anthony Abbas didn’t have a predisposition to plumbing when he entered the field, but that didn’t stop him from advancing faster than most. “I didn’t have any family members in the business or anything—I just started from scratch,” he says. “I began working for a local company, and within two years I obtained my license and started my own business.” Today, as owner of In & Out Plumbing, Anthony says he enjoys the versatile character of his chosen profession. “I like meeting and interacting with different people every day, as well as working with my hands. There are a lot of aspects to the job, so it never gets boring.”
Originally from Palestine, Anthony came to the United States as a young man to attend college in Wisconsin. Eventually, he made his way to San Francisco, where he started his plumbing career. As a resident of San Bruno, Anthony expresses his appreciation for his adopted hometown. “Everything is close by and my customers all live in the area,” he says. “We also have good schools and it’s very safe. Overall, it’s a nice place to live.”
Outside of work, Anthony devotes much of his time to physical fitness. “I’m an avid bodybuilder,” he affirms. “I used to do it competitively, and it’s something I’ve continued to stay involved with through the years. Between that and my daily work, I’m able to keep in shape.” Anthony says his passion for physical fitness is shared by his family. “My wife and kids also like working out, and my kids both played sports in high school, so the whole family is pretty athletic.” Additionally, Anthony enjoys exploring San Francisco, trying new restaurants and going on the occasional family road trip.
In his life and career, Anthony espouses the importance of putting forth his best effort. “I believe that if you’re going to do something, you ought to do it right,” he says. “The reason I’ve been successful is because whenever I do something, I do it to the best of my ability. I take pride in my work, and the effort I put in pays off every time.”
